TPA says that the claims that the government is planning to give DP World from the United Arab Emirates a contract to operate Dar es Salaam port for 100 years are false.
Dar es Salaam. As debate rages regarding the deal between Tanzania and the United Arab Emirates for the operation of the Dar es Salaam port, the Tanzania Port Authority (TPA) has denied allegations doing rounds on social media platforms saying they are distortions.
TPA’s clarification has come a day after the Parliamentary Committee on Infrastructure and Public Capital Investment (PIC) received the views of stakeholders in parliament in Dodoma.
The TPA statement released yesterday, June 6, through social media, said that the claims that the government is planning to give the DP World from the United Arab Emirates a contract to operate Dar es Salaam port for 100 years were false.
"The resolution of Parliament regarding the contract that the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania is entering into with the Government of Dubai with a 12-month limit to provide an opportunity for the two Governments to cooperate in the improvement of the port sector in Tanzania," said the statement.
TPA says that the cooperation between the two countries aims to promote the employment of Tanzanians and open up economic and social opportunities through investment in some areas of the port of Dar es Salaam, free economic and industrial areas and the transport chain to neighboring countries.
