What you need to know:

·Aim is to ensure they pay taxes accordingly

·Those who do not demand receipt to be penalised

Sumbawanga. Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) here has today, Sept 2, conducted a special operation to inspect buses and trucks that have been operating without stickers issued by the taxman.

The operation also involved checking whether bus drivers were requesting for EFDs receipts when they buy fuel.

TRA Assistant Manager, inspection department, Ms Amina Shamda, said that the operation was conducted in collaboration with Yono Action Mart.

According to Ms Shamda, most traders and drivers do not usually demand EFDs receipts when they purchase products or buy fuel for their vehicles and that most of the vehicles had only tax stickers.

“We believe that after this operation most of the traders will change and start abiding by the law. If they do not follow the law, they will find themselves in difficult time during their daily business,” she said.

She explained that it was time to see every individual consider the importance of paying tax, because by doing so he or she would be accomplishing the country’s the mission of increasing the tax collection base.

Yono Action Mart representative Mr David Philipo said they have been facing challenges with traders who are still going against the law.
