Trade Unions plead for the fake certificates holders

Handeni. Trade Unions in Handeni District, Tanga Region have asked President John Magufuli and his government to be considerate with civil servants who have been found to be using fake certificates.

Speaking during a meeting to review May Day celebrations, secretaries and coordinators of the trade unions in the district said though the civil servants have committed an offence if they have forged certificates but on the other hand they had also served the government and the country.

They proposed that they be paid their dues because despite having fake certificates but they discharged their duties diligently.

Mr Issa Mwambuga, Tanzanua Union of Government and Health employees (Tughe) coordinator in Handeni, said they were involved during verification of the certificates but that does not invalidate diligence by the fake certificates holders.

“We support the government in dealing with those with fake certificates but our call is that the services they provided to the government and country should be valued as well,” he said.

For his part, Tanzania Teachers Union (TTU) District secretary, Mr Hamisi Ngomero, said those people should be paid because they worked.

About 52 people in handeni are said to have been recognised using fake certificates.
