Dar es Salaam. The Chairman of the opposition party Chadema, Tundu Lissu, has been remanded in custody until June, 2025 following the adjournment of his treason and sedition case.
Lissu appeared today, Monday, May 19, 2025, at the Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court in Dar es Salaam, where a large crowd of party members and supporters had gathered.
As he left the courtroom to board a vehicle, Mr Lissu bid farewell to journalists with a brief statement: “It’s getting serious.”

Facing two charges—one of treason and the other of incitement—Lissu made the remark while raising two fingers in the air, a symbolic salute of his party, directed at cadres waiting outside the court's perimeter.
In response, party members broke into chants and songs, with some voicing the slogan, “No Reforms, No Election.”..
