Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Police Force has confirmed the arrest of two traffic officers involved in what has been described as unethical conduct while on duty.
Speaking to journalists, Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Commander Jumanne Muliro confirmed that the officers, whose video has circulated widely on social media, are currently in custody.
“The two, a male and a female officer, are in custody. Serious disciplinary actions will be taken against them before any further legal procedures are pursued,” said Muliro.
He emphasized that the Police Force in Dar es Salaam's Special Zone will not tolerate actions that undermine the integrity of the force or the government as a whole.
The video, which has been reviewed by The Citizen, shows the two officers stopping commuter vehicles for what appears to be a routine check. In the video, the vehicle stops a few meters ahead, and the conductor quickly runs back to the officers to hand over something. It remains unclear what was being handed over to the officers at that moment.
The police have assured the public that investigations into the matter are ongoing and that appropriate action will be taken.
