Uhuru Torch inaugurates projects worth Sh897m in Hanang District

Hanang. Uhuru Torch in the Hanang District Council, Manyara Region, has visited seven projects worth Sh897 million.

The Hanang District Commissioner, Ms Sarah Msafiri, said this on Sunday, September 10, when receiving the Uhuru Torch from her Mbulu counterpart, Mr Chelestino Mofuga, in Dabaschand Village on the border between the two districts.

Ms Msafiri said the torch passed in three divisions out of five, eight wards out of 33, 10 villages out of 96 as it also visited seven projects from which two had already been launched and three had foundation stones laid.

She said residents of the district have collectively raised Sh45.4 million for partly financing implementation of the seven projects. On the other hand, the District Council raised Sh34. 2 million, development partners made available Sh13 million and the Central Government contributed Sh804.7 million.

She clarified further that in this year’s Uhuru Torch race nationally, residents of Hanang District made a total contribution of Sh23.4 million, which is equivalent to 117 percent of the target to collect Sh20 million.

 "The value of various items contributed including three heads of cattle, three goats, one sack of maize, one tin of beans and 700 fish, Sh4 million cash.

She said out of entire money collected, Sh15.3 million, equivalent to 65.2 percent, was spent on activities of the Torch and Sh897 million, equivalent to 34.8, was used for people’s development projects.

Speaking after arriving in Hanang District, the leader of the Uhuru Torch, Mr Amour Hamad Amour, lauded the leadership of Mbulu District for receiving them warmly, saying the projects of Mbulu district including those of health, education, water and livestock were in satisfactory standards.
