Weatherman forecasts more rains for Dar es Salaam and coastal regions

Dar es Salaam.  The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has issued a concerning report regarding anticipated heavy rains set to affect various regions over the next five days, with effect from Wednesday.

TMA's forecast includes heavy rainfall warnings for select areas within Dar es Salaam, Tanga, the Coast (encompassing Mafia Islands), Lindi, and Mtwara, in addition to the islands of Unguja and Pemba.


Alongside this, cautionary advisories have been issued regarding strong winds with speeds reaching up to 40 kilometers per hour and waves soaring as high as two meters.

These conditions are expected to prevail along the extensive coastline of the Indian Ocean, impacting regions including Tanga, Dar es Salaam, the Coast (including Mafia Islands), Lindi, and Mtwara, as well as the islands of Unguja and Pemba.

As the week progresses, TMA has indicated the continuation of these adverse weather patterns. On Thursday, April 25, 2024, heavy rainfall warnings remain in place for designated areas in Dar es Salaam, Morogoro, Tanga, the Coast (including Mafia Islands), Lindi, Mtwara, Unguja, and Pemba.


Concurrently, the warning for strong winds and large waves persists along the coastal regions outlined in the initial forecast.

Moving into Friday, April 26, 2024, the Authority extends its warnings to include additional regions such as Arusha, Kagera, Geita, Mwanza, Mara, Shinyanga, Simiyu, Kigoma, Tabora, and Katavi, alongside the islands of Unguja and Pemba.


Once again, the forecast emphasizes heavy rainfall, accompanied by strong winds and large waves along the Indian Ocean coastline.

As Saturday, April 27, 2024 approaches, the focus remains on the Tanga Region and the islands of Unguja and Pemba, with heavy rainfall anticipated. Simultaneously, the risk of strong winds and high waves persists across the outlined coastal areas.

Concluding on Sunday, April 28, 2024, TMA reiterates its warning regarding strong winds and large waves along the coastal stretch, emphasizing the moderate likelihood of these conditions occurring, with potential impacts including the inundation of settlements and disruptions to economic activities, fishing, and maritime transportation.

Residents in the affected regions are urged to exercise caution and remain vigilant in light of these forecasted weather conditions
