Why CCM picked Bashiru as new Secretary General

Mr Polepole’s statement yesterday said the CCM NEC endorsed Dr Ally’s name for the post of secretary general. Mr Raymond Mangwala has been appointed the secretary general for CCM’s youth wing (UVCCM) while Ms Queen Mlozi has become the secretary general for the ruling party’s women wing (UWT). 


Dar es Salaam. The CCM National Executive Council (NEC) yesterday replaced Secretary-General Abdulrahman Kinana, who resigned on Monday, with a University of Dar es Salaam political science lecturer, Dr Bashiru Ally.

The party’s national chairman, President John Magufuli has been quoted in a statement, signed by the CCM Publicity and Ideology Secretary, Mr Humphrey Polepole, as saying that Dr Ally was picked to implement the findings of a committee he chaired to trace the ruling party’s assets and liabilities. 

He was appointed by the CCM chairman, President John Magufuli, in December last year to lead the committee. 

“We have given you this job during a difficult time. The Deputy CCM Chairman for Zanzibar, President Ali Mohammed Shein, and I have agreed that the good job you have done here must also be conducted on the Isles and you can do so as the secretary general,” said Dr Magufuli. 

Mr Polepole’s statement yesterday said the CCM NEC endorsed Dr Ally’s name for the post of secretary general. Mr Raymond Mangwala has been appointed the secretary general for CCM’s youth wing (UVCCM) while Ms Queen Mlozi has become the secretary general for the ruling party’s women wing (UWT). 

Mr Erasto Sima is the new secretary general of CCM’s parents’ wing (Wazazi). According to the statement, the CCM NEC declared that all the recommendations of the probe committee on the party’s assets and liabilities should be immediately implemented by the party. 

Dr Ally thanked the CCM NEC for the trust it has bestowed on him, promising to work diligently and with integrity in line with the ruling party’s constitution.
