Why the Mwananchi leadership forum

Dar es Salaam. Mwananchi Communications Limited (MCL) today embarks on an exciting journey in an endeavour to stimulate national development discourse.

MCL will officially launch its first edition of Mwananchi Thought Leadership Forum as it seeks to leverage on its global, continental, regional and local strengths to provide a platform to spotlight issues affecting Tanzanians.

The forum aims at provoking discourse, encourage dialogue, shape opinions and policy directions, and offer practical solutions on key issues critical to the development and growth of Tanzania as a nation.

Through the initiative, Mwananchi will convene, a quarterly high profile, high impact, national forum – a first in Tanzania, to bring to fore issues that concern the day-to-day lives of millions of Tanzanians.

The forum to be held quarterly will focus on various national issues such as economy, infrastructure, agriculture, ICT, and many more. The topics will focus a current or major recent issue of national importance.

The inaugural edition to be held today in Dar es Salaam will be about Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) like diabetes, cancer, heart and respiratory diseases that cause the death of thousands of people in the country every year.

What does the forum aim at?

The main objectives of the Forum are;

• Contribute to national development agenda

• Enrich national discourse on key issues

• Influence policy

• Provide unique content across print, broadcasting and digital platforms

• Opportunity to set the agenda through serialising issues

The Forum will be conducted in partnership with the government through relevant ministries, local and international agencies and organisations depending on topics on the table.

The forum is designed to be a highly interactive town hall format with views from the diverse panel of experts and through live broadcasting and digital audiences.

The Forum will feature a diverse panel representing a broad range of expertise and interest in line with the agreed topic.

Panelists for the respective forums will include influential figures in government, international and regional governmental organizations, policymakers, business leaders, and civil society.

Mwananchi Communications Limited will give the event 360 degrees publicity across broadcasting platforms, print and digital platforms.

They will bring together international, regional and local decision makers and thought leaders from diverse backgrounds in industry, government, academia, religious society, the diplomatic community and corporate entities.
