Iringa. Police in Iringa Region are holding a woman who confessed to killing her husband in a suspected jealousy-driven incident in Mufindi District.

Iringa Regional Police Commander (SACP) Allan Bukumbi said the incident occurred on August 20, 2025, at Ihefu Village, Mdabulo Ward, Ifwagi Division.

The victim, Philemon Lalika (49), a farmer, was fatally stabbed in the stomach by his wife, Elizabeth Kihombo (46), also a farmer. The attack caused severe injuries that led to his immediate death.

Reports indicate the couple had quarrelled at their home before the suspect allegedly seized a knife and attacked her husband.

After the stabbing, Ms Kihombo reportedly consumed Organophosphate, a grain preservative, in what police believe was an attempt to end her own life. She survived and is currently admitted to Mdabulo Health Centre under police guard.

Commander Bukumbi said preliminary investigations suggest jealousy was the motive. “Legal procedures are ongoing, and the suspect will face justice once discharged from hospital,” he said.
