Yas Tanzania marks 100-day milestone with special Iftar in Zanzibar

Zanzibar. Yas Tanzania celebrated 100 days since rebranding from Tigo, TigoZantel, and Tigo Pesa to Yas and Mixx by Yas with a special Iftar event at Hotel Verde in Zanzibar on March 14, 2025.
The event brought together leaders from the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, business partners, customers, and key stakeholders in the telecommunications sector.
The Regional Commissioner for Mjini Magharibi, Mr Idrissa Kitwana Mustafa, attended as the Guest of Honour. In his speech, he commended Yas Tanzania for its contributions to Zanzibar’s economic growth through telecommunications and mobile financial services. He also urged the company to use its platforms to promote peace, especially as the country approaches the election period.
"Yas Tanzania has demonstrated a strong commitment to serving its customers and the Zanzibar community at large. However, since this is an election year, I encourage the company to leverage its platforms to advocate for peace, stability, and unity among citizens," said Mr Kitwana.

Speaking on behalf of Yas Tanzania, Chief Financial Officer, Innocent Rwetabura expressed gratitude to the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar for its support in facilitating the rebranding process. He emphasized that the transition to Yas and Mixx by Yas has significantly reshaped the telecommunications landscape in Tanzania.
"As we celebrate 100 days of Yas and Mixx by Yas, we take pride in strengthening our relationship with customers and unlocking numerous digital opportunities for them. In this short period, we have received overwhelmingly positive feedback and have continued investing in technology and enhanced services to improve customer experience," said Rwetabura.
Key achievements in the first 100 days
- Industry Recognition: Yas Tanzania has received both national and international accolades, including awards from Ookla and the TEHAMA Awards. The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has also recognized Yas as a top taxpayer in the Customs Duty category.
- Strategic Partnerships: Yas has formed key collaborations with institutions such as Zanzibar Petroleum Limited (ZPL), the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE), and the Zanzibar e-Government Agency (EGAZ) to enhance service delivery.
- Infrastructure Investment: The company has expanded its network infrastructure to over 4,000 towers nationwide, ensuring broader coverage and high-speed internet connectivity.
- Magift ya Kugift Campaign: Through this promotion, over 1,300 Tanzanians have won prizes, including two brand-new cars, cash rewards totaling over TZS 840 million, and more than 540 smartphones.

Rwetabura also reaffirmed Yas Tanzania’s commitment to delivering world-class services tailored to the needs of customers in Zanzibar. He emphasized that Zanzibar remains a key part of the company’s mission to unlock digital opportunities for all Tanzanians.
