AT offers training for school teachers

Dar es Salaam. Athletics Tanzania (AT) has launched a special training programme for primary school teachers in a bid to promote the game of athletics in the country.

The training has commenced today on June 19, 2024 in Tabora Region and will be held in other three regions, according to AT Secretary General Jackson Ndaweka.

Ndaweka said the programme, dubbed ‘Kids Athletics’ training, is taking place at the Ally Hassan Mwinyi Stadium and will be for three days.

"After Tabora, we will go to Shinyanga and then to Kagera before winding up in Kigoma as the programme will be held for three days in each region.

“It is about a 'Kids Athletics' training programme organized by AT for primary school teachers in four regions.

“We are all aware that sports talents are nurtured from childhood, and children spend most of their time in school.

“So, to promote this sport, RT has seen the importance of empowering school teachers," said Ndaweka.

He added that once teachers have been trained on athletics, they will in turn train their school children.

"This will even improve the standards of athletic students when competing in school sports like the ongoing Umisseta and Umitashumta games,” he said.

He noted that famous instructors are conducting the training including National Sports Council (NSC) instructor Charles Maguzu, Alfredo Shahanga, Lwiza John, Michael Washa, and Christina Panga.
