CAF postpones inter-club draws, Yanga face Singida

Dar es Salaam. The Confederation of African Football has postponed the group stage draws for the Champions League and the Confederation Cup till further notice.

The group stage draws for inter-club competitions were initially slated for yesterday, but the body, through its website, announced late on Tuesday that the event had called off.

“The inter-club group stages draws of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup respectively have been postponed. The draws were initially scheduled for Wednesday (yesterday) November 16, 2022. A new date and time will be announced in due course. CAF apologizes for any inconvenience caused by this change,” CAF wrote on its website.

With the development, it means Tanzania’s giants, Young Africans (Yanga) and Simba, will have to wait for the anticipated draws.

Meanwhile, the Mainland Tanzania Premier League defending champions, Yanga, today face Singida Big Stars as the league continues at three different venues.

Yanga meet Singida Big Stars at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam at 7pm. Today’s fixture also shows that Mtibwa Sugar will be taking on Coastal Union at the Manungu Complex in Morogoro and Mbeya City will be clashing with Kagera Sugar at the Sokoine Stadium at 4pm.

The Yanga-Singida Big Stars duel is expected to be thrilling and tough because of the records of both teams.

Yanga are the only team in the league with the unbeaten record, which they will target to maintain while Singida Big Stars will be looking make new history by destroying the Jangwani Street giants’ records.

Yanga have collected 23 points from nine matches. The team recorded a 1-1 draw against Simba on October 23 and later drew 2-2 against Azam FC. Singida Big Stars have collected 18 points from 10 matches and have lost two matches so far.

The team were defeated 1-0 by Azam FC on October 3 and later suffered a 1-0 loss to Mtibwa Sugar on October 18 at the Manungu Complex in Turiani, Morogoro.
