Dar es Salaam. This year’s Tanzania National Club Swimming Championships have been scheduled to take place at the International School of Tanganyika (IST) Masaki swimming pool on April 20 and 21.

Speaking with The Citizen yesterday, Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) Secretary-General, Inviolata Itatiro, said that the event will feature swimmers from various mainland regions and Zanzibar.

Inviolata also said that the event is open to all swimmers registered by TSA for the 2023/2024 season.

She said the championships also open to all foreign swimmers who have met the qualifying time standards and have been cleared by their federation to participate must provide a clearance letter from their national federation and proper travel credentials.

“Qualifying times must be achieved between August 1 and March 2024.” said Inviolata.

Inviolata added that 107 swimming disciplines will enhance the event and called on all clubs to confirm their participation.

She explained that they have decided to include this number of events to assess swimmers’ talents and strengths before selecting some of them for the national team ahead of various international competitions.

She further stated that the deadline for clubs to confirm their participation is March 24 at 11 pm, after which no text or verbal entries will be accepted.

The event’s program indicates that a total of 70 events will be held on the first day, with the remainder taking place the following day.

According to her, swimmers will need to demonstrate their strength during the two-day event.

“This competition is very important for swimmers because it will be used to select athletes from all age categories to form the national team.

Swimmers have to strive for that,” she said. Inviolata explained that the competition is a qualifying event that will also serve as a selection process for swimmers for various international events.
