Dar es Salaam. Tanzania Mainland Premier League champions, Young Africans (Yanga) head coach, Miguel Gamondi, has been impressed with the players’ performances despite the 2-1 loss against German Bundesliga side, FC Augsburg, at the Mbombela Stadium in South Africa on July 20, 2024.

Gamondi said that despite the players focusing on physical conditioning, they played well against a high-level team that competes in one of the most prominent leagues in the world.

“We played against a team that normally faces Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, and many top teams in Germany. My players showed a high level of performance despite having trained for only a few days.

We created scoring chances that, if utilized well, would have leveled the score. I am satisfied with the players' performances and will continue to make improvements as we still have ample time before the start of the new season,” said Gamondi.

The Argentine coach stated that the match provided valuable insights for the players and that the coaching staff gained clarity on what needs further work.

"For me, the result was not important. I would have said the same thing even if we had won.

There are aspects we will focus on, especially those we have been trying to build while preparing the team for the upcoming season," said Gamondi.

“My players also gained something, and I think everyone saw that there is a small difference between FC Augsburg and us, Yanga," he added.

Yanga will continue their preparations in South Africa and will play their second friendly match against TS Galaxy of South Africa on Wednesday, July 24, 2024.
