What you need to know:

“I want to thank my players for the hard work they exhibited throughout the tournament.

It’s not been easy playing all those matches and successfully getting results.”

Dar es Salaam. Gor Mahia’s coach Frank Nuttall has praised his players’ character despite losing to Azam in the Cecafa Kagame Cup final. Nuttall said he was impressed by his players’ commitment throughout the tournament despite a 2-0 defeat to Azam in Sunday’s final.

“I want to thank my players for the hard work they exhibited throughout the tournament.

It’s not been easy playing all those matches and successfully getting results.”

“Against Azam we began the game well but lost concentration as fatigue crept in as we tried to come back and it became even more difficult when we conceded the second goal. But all in all, it was a good tournament and I would like to congratulate Azam for the win,” Nuttall told supersport.com.

Gor reached the final after impressive performances that saw them draw one game and win the rest on their road to the final.

Meanwhile, Gor Mahia striker Michael Olunga might have won the golden boot after scoring five goals in the just ended Cecafa Kagame Cup but failing to clinch the title with his club watered down his achievement.

“We were very optimistic as a team to try and give our dear fans something to smile about as they had travelled in large numbers to Dar es Salaam to give us support but it was not to be.”

“It was a gruelling game but in football you win some and lose some. Maybe we failed to click, but at least we gave a good performance throughout the tournament and it’s only fair to accept that it was not our day.”

“Individual rewards are good like the golden boot but I feel it would have been fantastic to be on the winners’ podium as a team. We have to now go back and concentrate on the league,” Olunga told supersport.com. (Supersport)
