What you need to know:

“I have ambitious strategies that can iron out financial constraints in our club. And this will begin soon after I take power on June 29 (today),” he said.

Dar es Salaam. Evans Aveva, a key member of Friends of Simba, goes head to head with Andrew Tupa in the battle for the Msimbazi Street club’s presidency at Oysterbay Police Officers Mess today.

Aveva, whose supporters include former Simba chairman Hassan Dalali, says he has what it takes to step into the shoes of outgoing chairman Ismail Aden Rage when the pair square it off today, but Tupa says he is not fazed by his rival’s reputation.

Tupa and Aveva are among 27 candidates who have been cleared by the club’s election committee to contest various posts in the eagerly awaited polls.

Both Tupa and Aveva seemingly agreed during their campaigns that the club’s economy is not stable and that it, therefore, needs a complete overhaul and good management plan. Aveva has pledged to bring in Sh350m through sponsorship if elected but Patel said: “The talk of a Sh350 million sponsorship does not bother me.”

He (Aveva) has also promised to restore unity in Simba and transform the club into a ‘money minting’ outfit if elected.

For his part, Tupa singled out greedy behaviours by top officials as the major factor behind the club’s failure to prosper.

“Over the years, we have been relying on some individuals for financial support. This situation must change.

“I have ambitious strategies that can iron out financial constraints in our club. And this will begin soon after I take power on June 29 (today),” he said.

Another battle to watch is for the vice president post, which has attracted four candidates—Gofrey “Kaburu” Nyange, Swedi Mkwabi, Bundala Kabulwa and Jamhuri Kihwelo. Those eyeing the executive committee membership are Said Tulliy, Yasini Mwete, Ally Suru, Rodney Chiduo, Said Pamba, Ally Chaurembo, Abdulhamid Mshangama, Chano Almasi, Damian Manembe, Ibrahim Masoud, Kajuna Noor, Hamisi Mkoma, Alfred Elia and Said Kubenea.

Also in the list are Idd Mkamballah, Juma Mussa, Maulid Abdallah and Collin Frisch. There are three female aspirants- Asha Muhaji, Amina Poyo and Jasmine Badour. They also eye the executive committee membership.
