Kiiza’s days at Young Africans seem numbered

However, the marauding forward has a “simple obstacle” to clear—passing trials--before putting pen-to-paper for a two-year contract with the ambitious Jangwani Street heavyweights.

Dar es Salaam. Hamis Kiiza’s future at Young Africans has been thrown into even further doubt following the arrival of a Liberian forward, Kpah Sean Sherman.

However, the marauding forward has a “simple obstacle” to clear—passing trials--before putting pen-to-paper for a two-year contract with the ambitious Jangwani Street heavyweights.

Sherman who featured in Cyprus premier league scored 24 goals, an impressive record that may influence the club leaders if he will perform well in the training.

The record also poses a big threat to the Ugandan forward, who showed good performance in the last international friendly match against visiting Uganda’s Express FC. Kiiza scored the lone goal in the encounter.

If Young Africans will recruit Sherman, the club will have to drop one foreign player as per rules and regulations governing the league. The club so far has five foreign players namely Haruna Niyonzima, Andrey Coutihno, Mbuyu Twite, Emerson Roque and Kiiza.

According to a Yanga insider, Kiiza’s future is hanging in balance and was supposed to be dropped in the team before the start of this season, but the club conflict with another Ugandan striker, Emmanuel Okwi, secured the player in the team. Okwi joined Simba SC.

“Kiiza is a good player, he scores important goals, but I am quite sure that his time at Yanga has come to an end. Sherman seems to be a far better striker than Kiiza and that is what the registration committee was looking for, so we don’t expect him to don the green and yellow colours again,” the insider said while seeking anonymity.

“Kiiza, who almost quit Yanga last season, extended his contract and now it is up to the club to terminate and compensate the striker handsomely in the next few weeks,” he said.

Young African registration committee boss, Isaac Chanji, said it was too early to discuss the registration of the Liberian striker as there are procedures to be followed before taking the final decision. “We need to examine him medically and technically, these are normal procedures in our team, we need to wait for the final decision,” he said.

He said for that matter, their technical bench and medical team will have to comment as they did for Emerson Roque who signed a one year contract replacing Brazilian, Geilson “Jaja” Santos who decided to remain in Brazil for family matters.
