Lugalo lady golfer starts preps for Africa amateur event

Dar es Salaam. Tanzania’s top lady golfer Vicky Elias has started preparations for the Africa Amateur Championship scheduled to tee off on February 21 to 24 next year at the Leopard Creek Country Club in South Africa.

Elias told The Citizen that she has decided to start early preparations with the aim of doing her best in the historic event being staged for the first time on the continent. “I have no time to waste as the event will be held in one and a half months to come. I have to train hard,” said Elias.

She said her selection for the event was based on merits and has to prove her worth by doing her best.

“I am going to compete and not to participate. I have to show who I am and clinch victory in the competition,” she said.

Elias, who is from Lugalo Golf Club, also played a vital role with Tanzania’s national team in retaining the East and Central All Africa Challenge Trophy (ECAACT) during its 6th edition held last November in Kigali, Rwanda.

She also claimed victory at the Tanzania Open golf event, showcasing her exceptional skills and determination. She is ranked 2,938 with 115.7042 points.

Tanzania will be also represented by Madina Iddi from Arusha Gymkhana Club. Iddi has emerged as a rising star in Tanzanian golf, boasting an impressive track record of victories in various tourneys recognized by the R & A. She clinched the Ghana Ladies Open title and added another feather to her cap with a triumph at the Kenya Stroke Play event.

Iddi's prowess on the course was further highlighted as she also played a crucial role in the national team's success of winning the ECAACT during its 6th edition held at the Kigali Golf Resort and Villas in Rwanda.

She holds an impressive ranking of 2,417, having amassed 322.7885 points out of 3,032 lady golfers in the world.
