Dar es Salaam. Taifa Stars head coach Charles Boniface Mkwasa will today unveil the squad that will lock horns with Kenya’s Harambee Stars in a friendly planned for May 29 in Nairobi.
The match will be part of the two countries’ preparations for their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers next month.
Taifa Stars, who are at the bottom of group G with a point, host five-time African champions Egypt at the National Stadium on June 4 while Kenya will play Congo on June 3.
The qualifiers will end in September when Taifa Stars will travel to Nigeria for a date with the Super Eagles.
They drew 1-1 in the first leg.
Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) head of information Alfred Lucas said yesterday that Mkwasa will name the team, which will pitch a brief training camp in Dar es Salaam before flying to the Kenyan capital.
“We hope that Mkwasa will unveil the Taifa Stars squad on Wednesday (today). The team will have a brief camp here before travelling to Nairobi,” he said.
“It is our belief that the match will help significantly both sides ahead of the Afcon.
We expect a good match against Kenya and a victory will give our players a mental edge before facing the Pharaohs.”
The Pharaohs, who beat Taifa Stars 3-0 in Alexandria in the first leg, lead the race for the finals with seven points followed by Nigeria with two.
Stars beat Chad 1-0 in March, but the victory was annulled after the latter pulled out of the championships citing financial constraints as a major reason.
