Nine swimmers to represent Tanzania in World Championships

Dar es Salaam. Nine swimmers have been selected to represent Tanzania in the Junior World Aquatics Championships scheduled to take place in Netanya, Israel, from August 24 to September 10 this year.
The swimmers are Sophia Latiff, Ria Save, Natalia Ladha and Amylia Chali who will feature in the women’s category while in the men’s are Romeo Asubisye, Aryan BhattBhatt, Peter Itatiro, Delbert Ipilinga and Michael Joseph.
The swimmers have earned selection after meeting the criteria, according to Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) secretary general Inviolata Itatiro, who added that they will be under coach Michael Livingstone.
Itatiro said TSA is now searching for sponsors for the swimmers, explaining that travelling and competing in the event costs about Sh12 million per simmer.
She explained that World Aquatics will provide travel support for a maximum of three accredited swimmers and their coach in the championships.
She said accommodation and meals expenses are the responsibility of the national federation and parents.
“The travel support will be provided only after the conclusion of the championships, based on final attendance and participation in the event.
“Criteria for swimmers to attain WA travelling support is for two male swimmers and one female,” she said.
According to Itatiro, the swimmers are Romeo, Aryan, BhattBhatt and Sophia, all have met the criteria, according to World Aquatics.
“Swimmers shall be ranked based on their swimming times close to qualifying time and World Aquatics Points. This is after featuring in the TSA sanctioned competitions,” she said.
“Other swimmers need support to travel and represent the country in the competition. We call upon stakeholders, well-wishers, private and government institutions as well as individuals to support the swimmers ahead of the event,” pleaded Itatiro.
She clarified that the budget for one swimmer to compete in the event is not less than Sh12 million ($5,000).
