Dar es Salaam. Top professional golfers are expected to compete in the third edition of the Lina PG Tour scheduled to tee off at the Arusha Gymkhana Club golf course from July 11 to 14.

Among them are Nuru Mollel who won the first round at the TPC Club golf course, and Hassan Kadio who won the second round held at the Morogoro Gymkhana Club golf course. The two golfers are the title contenders of the event.

Apart from the two, also on the list is Ally Isanzu who has won both the first and second rounds for Elite Amateurs, according to the Tour’s Director, Yasmin Chali, from the Lina Nkya family.

Yasmin said 38 professionals and elite golfers have confirmed that they will compete in the third round of the event also known as the Lina Tour Pro-Am tournament.

She said the deadline for the pros and elite golfers (with handicaps 5 and below) wishing to vie for the Lina PG Tour’s cash packages has been closed, enlisting 19 pros and 19 elite golfers. She said preparations for the July event are going on well.

“All preparations are in top gear and the golfers are now in intensive training ahead of the event,” she said. The event heads to Arusha after the two successful editions held in March at TPC Moshi Club golf course, in Kilimanjaro while the second round was staged at the Morogoro Gymkhana Club golf course in April, this year.

Organised by the Said Nkya family in collaboration with Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU), Tanzania Professional Golfers Association (TPGA), and Penda Golf Tanzania, the 72-hole stroke play tournament is exclusively for Tanzanian pros and amateur golfers.

The Lina PG Tour is a unique golf series being staged in Tanzania at the moment, besides paying homage to Lina Nkya, who spearheaded the success of women golfers at the global podiums, it is also titled the Road to Dubai, especially for the overall best performers of both professional and elite golfers’ categories.

The event has been introduced as part of activities to remember the late Lina Saidi Nkya, who passed away on January 19, 2021, in Moshi, Kilimanjaro Region.
