Dar es Salaam. Football giants, Simba SC, today kick-start their campaign for winning the Azam Sports Federation Cup (ASFC) title by playing against Eagle FC at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

The match has been scheduled to kickoff at 7pm and Simba head coach Juma Mgunda has said they are taking it seriously.

The coach said they are weighing equally all the teams that have qualified for the round and has called upon his players to fight hard in order to win the encounter.

He said football has strange results and that Simba have experienced it in the past after being eliminated. In 2017, Simba were eliminated by Green Warriors FC on 4-3 penalties at the Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam. The teams drew 1-1 during the regulation time. The following year 2018, Simba exited after they were beaten 3-2 by Kigoma’s Mashujaa at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.

“We need to be very serious in the match in order to win. I do expect to face a strong opposition although I am confident of winning the encounter,” said Mgunda.

He said the competition is very important as the winner will represent the country in the CAF Confederation Cup.

According to the tournament’s draw, 64 teams will be in action between December 9 and 11 in a race for the place in the best 32.

Yanga are the ASFC defending champions, who will be attempting to retain the title for the second time in a row.

They clinched it last season after defeating Coastal Union 4-1 on penalties at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium in Arusha after the normal play ended in a dramatic 3-3 draw.
