Dar es Salaam. Football giants in the country, Simba SC, have resumed the Mainland Tanzania Premier League campaign with a bang after beating Mashujaa FC 1-0 at the Lake Tanganyika Stadium in Kigoma today.
Simba's goal has been scored through a penalty by Saido Ntibazonkiza in the 14th minute of the game, bringing joy to the team's fans.
The victory also means Simba have taken revenge on Mashujaa FC who eliminated them by being beaten 3-2 in the Azam Federation Cup encounter held on December 26, 2018 at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
In the victory over Mashujaa, the Msimbazi Street team now sit third in the league log with 26 points from 11 matches. Azam FC top the league table with 31 points from 13 matches, while defending champions Young Africans (Yanga) are second with 31 points from 12 matches.
Despite the win, Simba faced a strong opposition from the Mashujaa players who created several clear scoring chances, but they failed to convert them into goals in the thrilling encounter.
Simba head coach Abdelhak Benchikha commended his players for the victory and said they were now focusing on their next match against Tabora United.
The encounter is scheduled to take place on February 6 at the Ali Hassan Mwinyi Stadium in Tabora Region.
Mashujaa FC head coach Abdallah Mohamed, alias Bares, said they made mistakes that allowed Simba to score in the match and promised to rectify them in their upcoming matches.
