Tanzania climbs two positions in latest FIFA rankings

  • This climb is attributed to the Taifa Stars’ recent performance in the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, where Tanzania finished fourth in Group F, collecting two points.

Dar es Salaam. Tanzania has risen two places in the latest release of the FIFA World Rankings, now occupying the 119th position garnering 1,160.98 points.

This climb is attributed to the Taifa Stars’ recent performance in the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, where Tanzania finished fourth in Group F, collecting two points.

Tanzania played three matches in the Afcon finals, losing 3-0 against Morocco, recording a 1-1 draw against Zambia, and securing a goalless draw against DR Congo.

The matches were the only ones considered between the last ranking in January and the current one.

Argentina leads the rankings with 1,855.2 points, followed by France with 1,845.44 points, and England in third with 1,800.05 points. Belgium holds the fourth position with 1,798.46 points, and Brazil ranks fifth with 1,784.09 points.

In Africa, Morocco maintains the top spot with 1,665.99 points, followed by Senegal in second with 1,260.74 points.

Nigeria ranks third with 1,522.26 points, while Egypt holds the fourth position with 1,500.38 points. Afcon winners, Ivory Coast, are placed fifth with 1,494.57 points, climbing 10 positions from their previous rank of 49th.

In the Cecafa region, Uganda leads with 1,246.88 points, ranking 92nd in the FIFA ranking. Kenya sits at 111th with 1,181.92 points, and Tanzania ranks third with 1,160.98 points.

Sudan holds the 127th place with 1,128.74 points, while Rwanda lies 133rd (1,107.04 points), and Burundi ranks 140th (1,085.83 points).

Ethiopia is positioned at 145th with 1,068.79 points, South Sudan at 166th with 989.29 points, Djibouti at 192nd with 882.76 points, and Somalia at 198th with 845.66 points.

 Only Eritrea in the Cecafa zone is not ranked.
