Tanzania junior golfers jet off to South Africa for All Africa event

Dar es Salaam. Tanzania’s national junior golf team players have departed for Johannesburg, South Africa, ahead of the All Africa Junior Golf Championships, set to tee off from April 24 to 26.

The 72-hole stroke play event will take place at Benoni Country Club in Gauteng province, featuring 16 countries.

The golfers competing in the event include Karim Ismail, the team’s captain from Lugalo Golf Club, Ramadhani Matinga (Lugalo), Mwinzani Mpyange (Dar es Salaam Gymkhana), and Aladini Rashid from TPC Golf Club in Moshi. The team is under the guidance of Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) official Enock Magile. TGU chairman Gilman Kasiga expressed expectations for the golfers to achieve their best results and gain exposure.

“I thank parents, golf stakeholders, the National Sports Council (NSC), and Immigration for their significant support to ensure the junior golfers' travel to South Africa ahead of the competition,” said Kasiga.

He said stressed the importance of the event for the development of golf in the country, stressing the need for young golfers to compete internationally for inspiration.

One of the player Ramadhani Matinga said their determination not to disappoint Tanzanians in the championships, affirming their thorough preparation and commitment to performing their best.

“We are ready for the competition. Our training includes running 1.5 kilometres per day, practicing putting, making long shots, and later honing our skills in 18 holes,” said Matinga.

In addition to Tanzania and the host country, South Africa, other participating countries include Tunisia, Namibia, Mauritius, Reunion, Gabon, and Uganda.

Others are Kenya, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Morocco, Egypt, Botswana and Malawi.

Last year's event was held at the par 72 Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort in Kigo, Uganda, in April, with 15 countries participating.

South Africa secured the boys’ title for the 15th time, significantly ahead of Zimbabwe, while also clinching the girls' title ahead of hosts Uganda, with the Kenyan girls finishing in third place.
