Winners of CRDB Taifa Cup basketball tourney to get Sh7 million

Dar es Salaam. The winners of the CRDB Taifa Cup basketball tournament for both men and women will be awarded Sh7million each.

This was announced by the Central Zone Manager of CRDB Bank, Chabu Mishwaro, in Dodoma as the tournament gains momentum at the Chinangali courts in.

Mishwaro said that the runners-up in both categories will be awarded Sh4 million each, making a total of Sh22 million set aside as prizes for the winners in the tournament sponsored by CRDB Bank and its partner, Azam Media Limited, with the slogan "It's More Than a Game, It's Life."

According to Mishwaro, there will be an award for the Most Valuable Player (MVP) for both men and women, each receiving Sh500,000, while the top scorers will be awarded Sh600,000 each, and the best defenders will receive Sh600,000 each.

He added that there will be a "Rookie of the Year" award for both men and women, each receiving Sh200, 000.

“We have given great value to this tournament by offering substantial prizes while incurring a cost of Sh100 million for sports gear, with operational costs from the Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) being Sh35 million and preparation costs being Sh30 million, and other sponsorship costs being Sh10.4 million. The total sponsorship is Sh200 million,” said Mishwaro.

He clarified that the main goal is to ensure the sport is developed both domestically and internationally, becoming a favorite and beneficial sport for the youth and the nation as a whole.

“Through its Corporate Social Investment Policy, the bank has continued to facilitate these competitions. Besides developing the sport, we have emphasised education for the youth, a policy that began in 2020 when we launched it for the first time,” he said.

He explained that in addition to offering opportunities for young people to showcase their talents and improve their health through the tournament, the bank has also been offering scholarships in various colleges in the country to further their education, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship training with the aim of enabling them to become self-employed or employed.
