Zitto will be my PM, says ACT candidate

Former Kigoma North MP Zitto Kabwe

What you need to know:

Ms Mghwira, the only female candidate seeking the highest office of the land, promised to pick Mr Kabwe premier as a payback for role people of Kigoma have played in the development of Tanzania

Kigoma. ACT-Wazalendo presidential candidate Anna Mghwira said she will appoint former Kigoma North MP Zitto Kabwe Prime Minister if she is elected president in the forthcoming General Election.

Ms Mghwira, who is the only female candidate seeking the highest office of the land, promised to pick Mr Kabwe MP as a payback for role people of Kigoma have played in the development of Tanzania.

The Ikulu aspirant expressed these sentiments when she addressed a campaign rally at Kazuramimba and Mahembe villages in Tanzania’s western-most region.

The people of Kigoma are generous, she said, but successive governments have failed to improve essential services there including healthcare, forcing women to deliver babies on the floor in hospitals. She describe Mr Kabwe as a capable leader who could reverse the bad situation if he is tasked with the execution of day-to-day functions of the government.

“I lived in Kigoma in 1990s. I know your generosity and how you freely accommodated refugees for years but your generosity is not recognised by the government,” she said.

“Kigoma has so many opportunities to enable its people to prosper economically. The only solution is to get to power ACT-Wazalendo so that we eradicate poerty,” she said.

Kigoma was potentially a good region to produce various products for export to neighbouring Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) but has not received the required support. She further promised to seal corruption oopholes.

Her running mate Hamad Mussa Yusuph asked Tanzanians to vote for ACT-Wazalendo to restore national values founded by Father of the Nation Mwalimu Julius Nyerere.
