His Highness Prince Karim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan IV, the 49th hereditary Imam (spiritual leader) of the Shia Ismaili Muslims and Founder and Chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network, has died in Lisbon, Portugal, at 88. The Aga Khan, a direct descendant of the Prophet Mohammed, is well known globally for his philanthropic works that were aimed at improving people’s lives. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, according to an official statement.
