Dar es Salaam. One of Tanzania’s envoys in the CAF Champions League, Azam FC, depart today for Kigali, Rwanda, ahead of their crucial return leg against APR.
The match is scheduled to take place this Saturday at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali and will kick off at 7:00p.m. East African time.
The Azam FC squad will be traveling without five key players: Yahaya Zaidy, Sospeter Bajana, Ali Ahmada, Franklin Navarro, and Alassane Diao. The players have been left behind due to injuries.
Speaking to The Citizen yesterday, Azam FC Information Officer Thabit “Zaka Zakazi” Zacharia confirmed the team’s travel plans aboard Air Rwanda, noting that the rest of the players are in top form ahead of their return leg.
Azam FC go into the match with a 1-0 goal advantage from the first leg, a result that Zacharia sees as crucial for their campaign.
“Our mission and vision is to progress to the next stage of the competition. We are aware that the match will be tough since we’re going to play away.
“However, our technical bench has prepared the team thoroughly,” said Zacharia.
He stressed that the 1-0 victory at home has given the team a significant advantage, and they are not daunted by the prospect of playing away from home.
Azam FC need only a draw in Kigali to secure their place in the next stage of the competition, where they may face Egyptian side Pyramids FC, who won their first leg over JKU with a commanding 6-0 scoreline.
“The players are highly motivated ahead of the match. All the mistakes that led to the narrow 1-0 win in the first leg have been rectified, and we are confident of advancing,” Zacharia added.
