108 golfers to compete in Lina Pro-Am Tour

Dar es Salaam. At least 108 golfers are expected to feature in the inaugural Lina Professional Golf Tour and Elite Amateurs dubbed Lina Pro-Am scheduled to tee off tomorrow to March 3 at the TPC Club golf course in Moshi.
This is according to Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) secretary general Yasmin Chali during an interview with The Citizen yesterday.
Yasmin said the 72- hole stroke play tournament is the first Pro-Am golf tournament tour in the country, whereby golfers will be awarded lucrative cash prizes.. She said the event will see 24 professional golfers, 12 Elite amateurs and 72 amateurs.
She noted that among the 24 professionals, the top 10 will be awarded cash prizes while the 12 elite amateurs, the top five will be awarded prizes.
According to Chali, the professional and elite golfers will compete for the 72-hole stroke play. She also said other 72 golfers in division A, B, ladies, juniors and seniors will compete in the 36-hole stroke play event.
There will also be for 54 –cut and first and second placed golfers for each category who will be awarded prizes.
She said male amateur golfers will be categorized into divisions A and B while lady golfers will be split into two groups namely bronze and silver.
Apart from commemorating the late Lina Said Nkya, the tournament also aims at sharpening skills and attaining the highest standard for both professional and amateur golfers in the country.
The late Lina, also known as Mother Golfer, passed away on January 19, 2021, in Moshi, Kilimanjaro Region.
Lina significantly contributed to the transformation of the renowned Kobe Golf Tournament, elevating it from a local event to a nationally-recognized competition spanning over 11 years.
Taking place annually at the year’s end, Kobe marked a milestone in Tanzanian golf by pioneering the inclusion of caddies as players.
The second event, as per the statement, is scheduled to tee off on April 11 to 14 at the Sea Cliff Golf Resort and Spa in Zanzibar, while the third event is planned for the Arusha Gymkhana Club court from July 11 to 14.
The schedule shows that the fourth event will be tee off at the Moshi Club golf course from September 26 to 29, and the grand finale is scheduled to take place at the Dar es Salaam golf course from November 1 to 17.
