Dar es Salaam. The seventh edition of Jubilee Tyres Arusha Junior Tennis Open tournament has been scheduled to take place in Arusha Gymkhana Club (AGC) courts from September 22 to 24.

Event coordinator Nicolas Jonas said the tournament will feature juniors from Dar es Salaam, Moshi, Morogoro and hosts Arusha.

The players will battle it out in singles and doubles events during the tournament, according to Jonas.

Jonas said the tournament meant for boys and girls between the age of eight and 18 and will also involve only local players. The event is aimed at developing the sport at the grassroots level and has been sponsored by Jubilee Tyres Limited.

“This is an annual tournament which brings together juniors from local based clubs, we are happy to have this tournament this time around, which is good for grooming our junior to the top level,” said Jonas.

The Arusha coach vowed that his junior players would take the overall trophy as they have best players in the country. He predicted tough challenge, saying Tanzania has good players who can make the competition exciting enough.

He added that the International Tennis Federation (ITF) rules will be applied throughout the tournament.

“I can confirm that 80 players from the host club and other local clubs are already here in Arusha, looking forward for the tournament,” said Jonas, who is also the AGC tennis coach, it will also help TTA to select a strong junior team that will represent the country in international tournaments,” he said.
