Bluefins swimmers ready to make a splash in Mwanza

Dar es Salaam. One of Tanzania’s leading swimming clubs, Bluefins, is set to field 12 swimmers at the annual Isamilo Invitational Championships, scheduled to kick off tomorrow at the Isamilo International School swimming pool in Mwanza.
Speaking to The Citizen yesterday, the club’s founder and head coach Rahim Alidina confirmed that the squad includes Imaan Kimario, a national team swimmer who is expected to be one of the standout performers at the meet.
Other female representatives from the club include up-and-coming talents Sakina Abdulali and Amatullah Mustansir, both of whom have shown consistent progress in their recent outings.
The male team will feature promising athletes such as Abbas Hemani, Shabbir Hatim, Is-haq Suleiman, Qais Kanji, Burhanuddin Hatim, Cayden Barretto, and Adam Hassanali.
In addition to the junior athletes, Bluefins will also field two swimmers in the Masters category: Farhana Karim and Alfarhan Dewji.
Their participation adds depth and experience to the squad, further emphasizing the club’s inclusive development philosophy.
Alidina expressed confidence in the team’s readiness, noting that all swimmers have undergone rigorous training in preparation for the event. He stressed that the trip to Mwanza is not only about competition but also about giving the younger swimmers the opportunity to grow both in skill and confidence.
“Our coaches have encouraged younger swimmers to travel and gain valuable exposure by competing outside Dar es Salaam. This trip to Mwanza provides a great opportunity for them to experience competitive swimming in a different setting and to learn from it,” said Alidina.
“We have assembled a balanced squad that includes emerging talent and experienced swimmers. We believe this blend will help us achieve good results and also contribute to the development of our athletes,” he added.
Alidina stressed the club’s tradition of nurturing youth and promoting early participation in competitive swimming.
“Our youngest swimmer this time is seven-year-old Abbas Hemani, who will be swimming in the 50-metre freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke events. It’s inspiring to see such young athletes take on these challenges with enthusiasm,” he said.
He concluded by underscoring the importance of participation at all levels: “We’re proud to have two master swimmers joining the event as well.
