Johannesburg. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced it will unveil a new trophy and refreshed identity for the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League on Thursday, May 22, in Johannesburg, two days before the much-anticipated final of Africa’s premier club football competition.

The unveiling, which will take place at the TotalEnergies headquarters in Johannesburg, will feature legends of African football as well as representatives from the two finalists — South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns and Egypt’s Pyramids FC.

In a statement seen by The Citizen, CAF said:“This event signifies a bold and exciting new chapter for African club football, as CAF continues to elevate the profile and image of the CAF Interclub Competitions.”

The first leg of the CAF Champions League Final will be played on Saturday, May 24 in Tshwane, South Africa, with the second leg scheduled for Sunday, June 1 in Cairo, Egypt.

CAF added that the timing of the trophy unveiling is designed to amplify the excitement and prestige surrounding the final, offering fans across the continent a first look at what the competing clubs will be fighting for.

The launch also marks a continuation of the long-standing collaboration between CAF and TotalEnergies. The unveiling follows the recent extension of the partnership between the continental football governing body and the multi-energy company for another four years.

Details about the design and symbolism of the new trophy will be disclosed during the Johannesburg event.

This initiative reflects CAF’s broader strategy to modernise and globalise African football, enhancing its commercial appeal and visual identity while maintaining its rich heritage.

“CAF, in partnership with TotalEnergies, will continue to invest in the growth of club football on the continent. The new trophy is more than just silverware — it’s a symbol of ambition, excellence, and the bright future of African football,” the statement added.
