CRDB Marathon 2024 winners to get lucrative cash prizes

What you need to know:

  • The marathon, which will be led by The Deputy Prime Minister and the Energy Minister, Doto Biteko, will see the first-place winners of the 42.2 kilometres race awarded Sh10m each, while the second-place winners will receive Sh5m, and the third-place winners will get Sh2m.

Dar es Salaam:Winners of the CRDB Bank Marathon 2024, scheduled to take place on August 18 in Dar es Salaam, will be awarded a total of Sh98.3 million.

The director of Corporate Affairs of CRDB Bank and the managing director of the CRDB Bank Foundation, Tully Esther Mwambapa, said that they have decided to offer substantial prizes to the winners in recognition of the participants' value and the prestige of the competition, which has now attracted international participants.

Mwambapa said that the marathon, which will be led by The Deputy Prime Minister and the Energy Minister, Doto Biteko, will see the first-place winners of the 42.2 kilometres race awarded Sh10m each, while the second-place winners will receive Sh5m, and the third-place winners will get Sh2m.

Additionally, there will be prizes for those who place fourth to sixth.

If the winners are from foreign countries, the bank will also award Tanzanians who rank highest on the winners' list with Sh2m each.

In the half marathon, the first-place winners will receive Sh5m, while the second and third-place winners will be awarded Sh2m and Sh1m in the race that Mwananchi Communications Ltd is one of the partners.

There will also be prizes for those who place fourth to sixth, with the bank awarding Sh1m to the highest-ranking Tanzanians on the winners' list.

For the 10 kilometres race, the first-place winners will be awarded Sh2m, while the second and third-place winners will receive Sh300, 000 and Sh150,000, respectively.

There will also be prizes for those who place fourth to sixth.

There will be also 5 kilometres race whereby the first-place winner will receive a lunch voucher for two at the Hyatt Regency Hotel worth Sh250,000, along with a Sh500,000 voucher for purchasing sports equipment at Shadaka Sports Wear store.

Mwambapa also said the event will be spiced with the 65 kilometres cycling race whereby the winners will get two different prizes.

There will be cash prize as well as accommodations at a five-star hotel. The prizes will also apply to the winners of the 10 kilometes race.

According to Mwambapa, the first-place winner in cycling will receive Sh3m, the second-place winner will get Sh1.5m and the third-place winner will receive Sh1m.

There will also be special prizes for children, including bicycles and sports equipment from Ramohs Kids Toys worth Sh1m, as well as Junior Jumbo accounts with a Sh500,000 deposit.

In addition to Tanzania, the marathon, now in its fifth season, will be held for the first time in DR Congo on Sunday and in Burundi on August 11. So far, 1,127 participants from DR Congo and 891 from Burundi have registered.

To date, 5,583 participants have registered out of the 8,000 expected to join the race, including 823 foreign participants.

Mwambapa also noted that this year, they have introduced more advanced equipment, making the marathon slightly different.

"We have brought in weapons and equipment that participants can purchase aside from those provided through the registration fee.

These include tracksuits, caps, water bottles, and waist bags. All of these will be available for sale starting August 10 at Mlimani City, where we will begin distributing gear to CRDB Bank Marathon participants," said Mwambapa.
