Dar es Salaam. The stage is set for one of the city’s most exciting sporting and social events, as the Dar Leopards Annual Touch Rugby Tournament returns on September 13, at the Gymkhana Club cricket pitch.
The all-day event promises a mix of competitive rugby, family fun, and vibrant social gatherings that bring together players and fans from across the region.
This year’s edition will feature teams from all over Tanzania and Kenya, making it one of the largest rugby festivals in the country. Organizers have emphasized inclusivity and development, with special support from the French Embassy in Dar es Salaam, which has enabled some grassroots and development squads to travel and participate.
The tournament is expected to serve as both a showcase of rugby talent and a platform for nurturing the next generation of players.
Among the teams to watch will be the Arusha Rhinos, who have dominated the event in recent years, holding the championship title for consecutive editions.
However, with strong competition expected from Nairobi-based teams and Dar’s own Leopards, anticipation is high for a potential change at the top. Rugby fans will be looking forward to thrilling matchups, intense rivalries, and perhaps a new champion being crowned.
The tournament is not just about rugby. Food and beverage partners, including Burger53, The Wine & Cheese Shop, Painted Dog Craft Gin, Pepsi, and TBL, will ensure that fans are well-fed and refreshed throughout the day.
Spectators can enjoy a lively atmosphere with food stalls, drinks, and social spaces that complement the on-field action. For families, the event offers a dedicated Kids Zone, complete with bouncy castles, fun rugby-style games, and even adorable puppies from Every Living Thing, adding a playful touch to the day. The organizers stress that the event is open and welcoming for all ages, with free entry for spectators.
As always, the rugby action will be complemented by a strong social program. A Friday night pre-party will be hosted at the Slow Leopard, setting the mood for the weekend. On Saturday, once the final whistle has blown, celebrations will continue at Santorini Garden Bar with the official after-party.
The theme for the evening is “Leis & Leopards”, encouraging guests to don their best tropical outfits and party alongside players and supporters late into the night.
The Dar Leopards Annual Touch Rugby Tournament has grown into a flagship event that combines competitive sport with community spirit, cultural exchange, and entertainment.
Whether you are a rugby enthusiast, a family looking for a fun day out, or someone eager to experience Dar’s vibrant social life, the tournament promises something for everyone.
With free entry, diverse food and drink options, children’s activities, and plenty of rugby excitement, the Gymkhana Club will be the place to be on Saturday, September 13, 2025.
