Dar es Salaam. The Dar Leopards Rugby Football Club (R.F.C) proudly hosted its annual touch rugby tournament on September 14th at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club, bringing together nearly 200 players from across Tanzania and the region.

Teams from Dar es Salaam, Iringa, and Arusha took part, along with a few dedicated players who flew in from Nairobi, demonstrating the growing enthusiasm for rugby in Tanzania.

The event also attracted over X spectators who came to enjoy a full day of competitive rugby and community activities.

This year's tournament focused on nurturing local talent from diverse backgrounds, providing an opportunity for players to sharpen their skills in a highly competitive environment. The matches were intense and hard-fought, with Team X ultimately claiming the trophy.

The day wasn't just about rugby; it was a celebration of community. Families enjoyed various activities, including a visit from the Every Living Thing animal welfare charity, a bouncy castle, face painting, and other games, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere.

The tournament's success was made possible by the support of local businesses and organisations. Silver sponsors HIMOINSA, Fat Cap & Brisket, and Roadgrip, along with Bronze sponsors Henderson Risk, Southern Sun Tanzania, and MAK Music and Art Centre, contributed generously to the event, including sponsoring players who needed financial support, making the tournament accessible to participants from across Tanzania.

Dar Leopards R.F.C extend its gratitude to the Tanzania Rugby Union (TRU) for their ongoing commitment to developing rugby across the country and for supporting events that help raise the standard of the sport.

"We are proud to see the level of competition grow each year," said Gustav Mphusu, Chairman of Dar Leopards R.F.C. "Our mission is to raise the standard of rugby in Tanzania by providing a platform for players to challenge themselves against strong opponents.

This tournament shows that Tanzanian rugby is on the rise, and we are committed to pushing it even further."

Dar Leopards R.F.C welcome new members to join our rugby community, whether new to the sport or experienced players. We run weekly touch and contact training sessions and regularly host or participate in matches and tournaments.
