Dar Swim Club takes the lead in national championship

Dar es Salaam. Dar Swim Club made a stunning start to the National Swimming Championship at the Heaven of Peace Academy yesterday. With the tournament reaching its climax today, the Dar es Salaam club was at the top of the medal table with 71.
Taliss settled for the second spot with 54 medals followed by International School of Morogoro with 28 while the fourth place went to Bluefins who bagged nine medals. The swimmers with the best time from the tournament will qualify for the Cana Zone IV championship, which will take place in Mauritius later this month.
Speaking after the end of the first day, Dar Swim Club coach Mike Livingstone showered praise on his swimmers, adding that the feat was down to good management.
He named his fellow trainers who have been working tirelessly to hone the athletes skills as Ferick Kalengela, Radhia Gereza, Kanisi Mabena and Salum Mapunda.
“We had trained very well for this championship and we are all delighted by the first day results. We expected this performance, but let’s for the final day,” said Livingstone. The club secretary general, Inviolata Itatiro voiced his optimism that they will add more medals today.
“The swimmers have gone through the best training at our club, so we are still looking forward to hauling more medals on the final day. We want to transform the swimming fortunes on international stage,” he said.
Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) secretary general, Ramadhan Namkoveka was contented with the display of some swimmers who broke records on the first day of the national event.
“We are impressed with the standard of swimming the youths have displayed today. Some have even broken national records,’ he said. He named some of the outstanding swimmers as Sonia Tumiotto, Hilal Hilal, Collins Saliboko, Amani Doggart, Marin de Villard, Adil Bharmal, Catherine Mason, Lidia Janik and Anjani Taylor.
