Ecua joins Yanga to form lethal trio with Mzize, Dube

What you need to know:

  • Ecua is expected to arrive in Dar es Salaam soon to complete formalities and immediately join the squad for pre-season training as Yanga intensifies preparations for the 2025/26 season.

Dar es Salaam. Young Africans SC (Yanga) have made a bold statement in the transfer market by securing the signature of Celestin Ecua, the reigning Ivorian Premier League Most Valuable Player (MVP), in a two-year deal from Zoman FC.

The 24-year-old striker, who lit up the Ivorian league last season with 15 goals while on loan at ASEC Mimosas, is now set to boost Yanga’s attacking force ahead of a packed domestic and continental calendar.

Ecua’s arrival is seen as a major reinforcement in Yanga’s frontline, where he will compete with the club’s top forwards—Clement Mzize and Prince Dube. Both were instrumental in the team’s successful 2024/25 campaign, with Mzize netting 14 goals and Dube closely behind with 13.

Now, with Ecua added to the mix, the technical bench will have a lethal trio to rotate or field together—an attacking combination that will undoubtedly trouble defenses across the NBC Premier League, FA Cup, and CAF Champions League.

Ecua is expected to arrive in Dar es Salaam soon to complete formalities and immediately join the squad for pre-season training as Yanga intensifies preparations for the 2025/26 season.

Club insiders have confirmed that all key terms have been agreed upon, and the official unveiling will follow upon his arrival in Tanzania. The signing not only sends a powerful message to Yanga’s rivals but also reflects the club’s clear intent to build a deep, competitive squad capable of challenging on multiple fronts.

Ecua’s track record speaks for itself. At ASEC Mimosas, he was not just a prolific goal scorer but a complete forward—capable of dropping deep, creating opportunities, and delivering under pressure. His performances earned him the league MVP title in one of Africa’s most competitive football environments.

Yanga’s move to bring in a player of Ecua’s caliber is also strategic as the club prepares for another intense CAF Champions League campaign. With his experience in top-flight African football, Ecua is expected to bring both quality and leadership to Yanga’s continental ambitions.

Having already swept all major domestic titles last season—the NBC Premier League, FA Cup, Muungano Cup, and Community Shield—Yanga are clearly not resting on their laurels. The signing of Ecua sends a strong message: the champions are hungry for more.
