Dar es Salaam. Excitement is building as Dar es Salaam prepares to host the 21st edition of the Rotary Goat Races, an event that blends high-octane fun with community impact.
This year, the first-place winner will walk away with a prize of Sh400, 000, adding extra thrill to an already spectacular event.
The races are scheduled for September 20, 2025, at The Green grounds in Oysterbay. Organizers are expecting an impressive turnout, with approximately 5,000 participants ready to witness the action and support a noble cause.
The event aims to raise Sh200 million to fund education projects nationwide, highlighting its dual focus on entertainment and philanthropy. Project Manager Paul Muhato confirmed that all preparations have been completed.
“We are expecting 80 goats to take part in this year’s race,” he said. “They will be divided into 10 groups, with each group competing fiercely for the top spot. It promises to be an unforgettable day for participants and spectators alike.”
Muhato also expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from sponsors, noting that over 20 organizations have partnered with the event this year.
“For the third consecutive year, Vodacom Tanzania PLC returns as the main sponsor, demonstrating its long-term commitment to the community,” he said.
Muhato added that Vodacom has expanded its support beyond the races by investing in clean water, sanitation, and health (WASH) projects, reinforcing the company’s dedication to social development. In addition, SBC Tanzania Limited has joined as a sponsor. Roselyne Bruno, SBC’s Products and Events Manager, explained their decision:
“We chose to support the event because it goes beyond entertainment. Every sponsored goat, and even every bottle of Pepsi consumed during the event, contributes directly to education and health initiatives. This is a race that truly makes a difference in the community.”
Bruno said that the Rotary Goat Races are not just about fun. “This is an opportunity for the community to come together, celebrate, and create lasting memories while leaving a positive legacy through charity,” she said.
With prizes, spirited competition, and a mission to uplift the community, the Rotary Goat Races 2025 promise an evening of laughter, excitement, and generosity.
Whether you come for the thrills of the race or to support a worthy cause, this is one event Dar es Salaam residents will not want to miss.
