Dar es Salaam. Young Africans (Yanga) are taking a strategic approach to player management as it gears up for the new season and Tanzania’s upcoming World Cup qualifier.

The club’s training camp at Avic Town, Kigamboni, has been running smoothly, with Coach Romain Folz implementing a focused program that balances preparation with recovery.

Five key players were granted a special seven-day rest from regular camp duties.

The group includes defenders Ibrahim Hamad alias Bacca, Clement Mzize, Mohammed “Tshabalala”  Hussein Mudathir Yahya and Dickson Job.

All five had recently featured for the Taifa Stars at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), where Tanzania reached the quarterfinals before being eliminated by Morocco.

Folz personally contacted each player to commend their CHAN performances and motivate them during their short break.

He also reviewed their previous season statistics, highlighting their contributions while reinforcing the importance of maintaining fitness during downtime.

During the rest period, the players are expected to engage only in light conditioning exercises to aid recovery.

“This short break is crucial to help them recharge physically and mentally,” Folz explained.

“We want our players at peak performance when they return to club training, especially with national team duties coming up.”

The timing of the break coincides with preparations for Tanzania’s World Cup qualifier against Niger on September 9 at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Folz noted that reintegration into the squad may be affected by national team call-ups. Players not selected for the qualifier will rejoin Yanga camp immediately, ensuring continuity in club preparations.

This approach reflects Folz’s commitment to balancing player workload between club and country, safeguarding fitness while maintaining tactical cohesion.

It also underlines the broader strategy of combining recovery, performance monitoring, and careful scheduling to optimize results for both Yanga SC and the national team.

By prioritizing recovery for his key stars while keeping a close eye on their readiness, Folz aims to maintain a competitive edge for Yanga SC and contribute to Tanzania’s continental ambitions on the road to the World
