Dar es Salaam. The fourth edition of the Galinoma Memorial Golf Tournament has been scheduled to tee off on April 29 at the Tanzania People’s Defense Forces (TPDF) Lugalo Golf Club course in Dar es Salaam.

The 18-hole tournament is expected to feature top golfers in the city as well as from upcountry.

Some of the top golfers expecting to feature in the event are Isiaka Daudi, Angel Eaton, Hawa Wanyeche, Gen. George Waitara, Edmund Mndolwa, Ombeni Sefue, Charles Sanga, Job Masima, Simon Sayore, Boniface Nyiti, David Mollel and others.

The event, which has been organised by the Galinoma family in collaboration with the Lugalo Club, commemorates the former Lugalo Golf Club chairman, the late Brigadier General (rtd) Ernest Galinoma.

The senior golfer Galinoma died at the Muhimbili Referral Hospital in the city on April 17, 2016, and was laid to rest in Kalenga Village, Iringa Region.

Speaking with The Citizen yesterday, Alex Galinoma, one of the event organizers, said they are expecting to have a thrilling event since the country’s top golfers are currently gearing up for the tournament.

Galinoma said the ruling CCM party’s Vice-Chairman (Mainland), Abdulrahman Kinana will be the chief guest of the event.

“So far, preparations are in top gear and we are inviting all golfers to feature in the forthcoming event. We also call on companies, institutions, and sports well-wishers to support the event,” said Galinoma.

He explained that during his lifetime, Galinoma was also a good supporter of ladies’ golf including the Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) that organised the first-ever international golf tournament, the East and Central Africa Ladies Challenge Trophy at the Lugalo course in 2011.

Apart from that, Galinoma was also the founder of the junior golf programme at the club.
