Lina PG Tour set to tee off at Lugalo with 136 golfers

Dar es Salaam. All roads will lead to Lugalo Golf Club from July 17 to 20, 2025, as the highly anticipated third edition of the Lina PG Tour (Pro-Am) tees off with a record field of 136 golfers.
This year’s event promises to be one of the most competitive and entertaining golf tournaments on the national calendar. According to the event organisers, the Lina PG Tour will feature a rich blend of talent from across Tanzania.
The participants include 22 professional golfers, 40 elite amateurs, and 74 subsidiary amateurs—a lineup that reflects the growing appeal and stature of the Lina PG Tour on the regional golf circuit. The four-day tournament will be held at Lugalo Golf Club, one of the most picturesque and professionally maintained courses in Tanzania.
The format of the competition will include a cut after 36 holes, ensuring that only the best-performing golfers make it to the final two rounds.
The event is being organised in partnership with key stakeholders including the Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU), Tanzania Professional Golfers Association (TPGA), Penda Golf Tanzania, and the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR).
This partnership underscores the Tour’s commitment to inclusivity, development of the game, and global standards.
This year’s tournament is themed “Journey to Your Dream”, a fitting tagline for an event that continues to open pathways for amateur golfers to transition into the professional ranks.
The inclusion of both professional and elite amateur categories not only raises the competition level but also offers young and emerging players a platform to test themselves against seasoned veterans.
The organisers have confirmed that registration for professional and elite amateur categories is now officially closed, a sign of overwhelming interest and support from the golfing community. Meanwhile, the tournament also promises a festive atmosphere, with sponsors, media partners, and golf enthusiasts expected to turn out in large numbers.
Lina PG Tour Director Yasmin Chali said the event serves as a key platform to sharpen competitive skills, build camaraderie among players, and promote golf as a career option among Tanzanian youth.
Yasmin also said that beyond being a competitive platform, the Lina Pro-Am Tour is held in memory of the late Lina Said Nkya, affectionately known in the golfing community as the “Mother Golfer.”
Lina passed away on January 19, 2021, in Moshi, Kilimanjaro Region. Lina Nkya played a pivotal role in the transformation of the renowned Kobe Golf Tournament, elevating it from a local affair into a nationally recognized competition over her 11-year involvement.
