Dar es Salaam. The Kinondoni Municipal Council Football Club (KMC FC) has officially unveiled Brazilian coach Marcio Maximo as their new head coach for the 2025/2026 season.

Speaking yesterday, KMC FC Board Chairman Sengoro Mnyonge announced that Maximo has signed a one-year contract, with an option for extension based on his performance.

Mnyonge said that Maximo is no stranger to Tanzanian football. He previously served as head coach of the national team, Taifa Stars, between 2006 and 2010, where he led the team to its historic qualification for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in 2009. He later had a short coaching spell with giants Young Africans (Yanga)  in 2014.

“This is a strategic step to uplift the club,” said Mnyonge. “We approached Maximo while he was still in Brazil because we believe in his philosophy and his ability to develop modern footballers.  Under his leadership, Taifa Stars gained continental and global recognition. He brought professionalism, and his presence drew attention from international players and coaches alike.” Mnyonge said that bringing in Maximo is part of a long-term plan to modernize the team and sharpen the talents of younger players.

He added that Maximo's reputation and legacy in Tanzanian football made it impossible to let the opportunity pass.

“He has come with a physical trainer who will work closely with him. This marks a new chapter for KMC. We urge fans to support the coach fully and continue standing behind our team,” he said. In his remarks, Coach Maximo expressed excitement about returning to Tanzania, a country he described as his second home.

“I chose Tanzania again because of the bond I share with its people and football culture. I’ve coached here before, and I understand the environment and expectations,” he said.

Maximo pledged to build a competitive squad capable of challenging on both domestic and international fronts. He further stated his goal is to make KMC the third most beloved club in Tanzania, after the giants Yanga and Simba.
