Maximo thanks Young Africans despite sacking

Former Young Africans head coach, Marcio Maximo

Dar es Salaam. Former Young Africans head coach, Marcio Maximo, has left for Brazil to start a new life, leaving a strong message for the club leadership if the club is to excel locally and internationally.

Maximo and assistant coach Leonard Neiva had their contracts with the club terminated after the 2-0 defeat by their traditional rivals, Simba Sports Club in the Nani Mtani Jembe match recently.

Prior to hiring Maximo and his assistant the club had sacked Dutch coach Ernie Brandts and Fred Felix Minziro after Yanga fell 1-3 to Simba in the same non-league match last year.

Speaking with The Citizen before leaving, Maximo said that they were in a positive mood with the club leadership despite the fact that their dream to implement professionalism in the club vanished after their contracts ended prematurely. Maximo said that despite the loss to Simba SC, the club performance was improving after winning the Community Shield match against Azam Football Club at the National Stadium.

He said they’ve left the club in the second position in the premier league for which they feel proud.

“During the six months with the team, we tried to implement professionalism, in and outside the field; we also worked hard to improve the facilities, unfortunately, we did not convince the club leaders to support us, maybe we were not the right coaches for the club system,” said Maximo.

“We built well-disciplined players and included many youthful players in the senior team, now the U-20 are part of the senior team at the moment, we are sure this will benefit the club in the near future.

We call on the leadership and entire technical bench to carry on from where we left, we are sure Young Africans will reap good results in future,” he said.

Maximo said they appreciate the support they got from the leadership during their stay and will be ready to help whenever they’re needed to do so. “I am part of the club, what has happened is common to all coaches in the world; there is a slogan that says coaches are hired to be fired,” he concluded.
