Dar es Salaam. Clement Mzize and Stephane Aziz Ki delivered match-winning performances as Young Africans (Yanga) defeated TP Mazembe of DR Congo 3-1 to rekindle their hopes of reaching the CAF Champions League knockout stage.

In the match played on January 4, 2025, at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, the Jangwani Street giants staged a comeback after TP Mazembe took an early lead in the 16th minute.

Alioune Faty converted a penalty following a defensive error by Yanga's left-back, Shadrack Boka.

Despite the setback, Yanga dominated the game and equalized in the 33rd minute through a stunning 25-meter strike from Mzize, set up by Boka. Mzize controlled the ball, drove forward, and unleashed a powerful shot that left TP Mazembe goalkeeper Faty helpless.

Yanga continued to dictate the tempo, with Prince Dube, Pacome Zouzoua, and Aziz Ki creating chances but failing to convert.

The breakthrough came in the second half, as Aziz Ki scored in the 56th minute after a precise pass from Khalid Aucho. Just four minutes later, Mzize struck again, this time capitalizing on a pinpoint assist from Dube to seal the victory.

The Tanzanian giants could have scored more but were let down by poor finishing.

The win moved Yanga to third place in Group A with four points, tied with Tunisia’s MC Alger, who have a better goal difference (+1 compared to Yanga’s -2). Al Hilal Omdurman of Sudan tops the group with nine points, while TP Mazembe remains at the bottom with two points.

Al Hilal will host MC Alger on Sunday, January 5, 2025, in Mauritania.
