Dar es Salaam. Over 2,000 boys and girls are set to compete in the second edition of the JustFit Inter-School Games scheduled to take place at the end of this month and continue into early December.
This was revealed yesterday by JustFit Foundation President Lubna Lutfi Islam in an interview with The Citizen.
Lubna explained that the event will feature U-15 boys and girls contesting a range of sports, including football, chess, swimming, table tennis, and track and field (athletics).
The competition aims to provide a platform for young athletes to showcase their talents and gain experience in a competitive setting.
She added that schools are currently in the registration process, with the deadline extended to November 20.
"Originally, we planned to close the registration process by November 10, but many schools requested an extension to allow them more time to enter additional teams in various sports," said Lubna.
The event's schedule indicates that the swimming competition will be held at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club on November 30, running from 7am to 5pm.
The competition will feature swimmers in different age categories, including seven and under, 8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, and 15 and above.
These age-specific categories are designed to encourage participation from a wide range of young swimmers, allowing them to compete at levels appropriate to their development.
On December 7, the focus will shift to football, chess, basketball, table tennis, and track and field events, which will be held at the University of Dar es Salaam grounds.
This multi-sport event aims to provide young athletes with the opportunity to compete in a variety of disciplines, enhancing their skills and encouraging teamwork.
“The event will climax on December 8 with the semifinals and finals in all sports categories, followed by an awards ceremony to recognize the winners and outstanding performers,” Lubna noted.
The event is expected to be a significant step toward developing youth sports in Tanzania, with the added objective of scouting talented young athletes who may represent the country in the future.
Besides JustFit Sports Gear, key organising partners for the event include the JustFit Foundation, Street Soul, Dreamchasers Technologies, the Hasheem Thabeet Foundation, and Juventus Academy Tanzania.
During the competitions, medical support will be provided by Saifee Hospital Tanzania.
