Over 3500 runners for Tigo half marathon

Dar es Salaam. More than 3500 athletes are expected to take part in this year’s Tigo 21 Km Half Marathon during Kilimanjaro Premium Lager Marathon 2016.

Tanzanian Grace Kimanzi won the race last year after clocking 01:12:36 in the women’s discipline while her compatriot, Ismail Juma won the men’s category at 01:15:10.
The Tigo Corporate Communications Manager, John Wanyancha said they expect more to register following last year’s big turnout.
“We expect a big turn out this year and its our expectations that Tanzania runners will once again excel in both men and women disciplines.‘We therefore call upon local athletes to prepare intensively as the race will be very competitive with other runners from different countries like Kenya taking part,” he said.
He said Tigo has been on the frontline in supporting athletes from other marathons as a way of supporting them. His firm also sponsors different other races
According to Wanyancha, the aim is to enable Tanzanian athletes compete with other athletes from other countries and emerge winners.He called on Moshi residents to turn out in large numbers on February 28 when the marathon will be held as he said there will also be other activities including Tigo’s stand where they will be running different promotions.
Kilimanjaro Marathon is also sponsored by Kilimanjaro Premium Lager, GAPCO, Grad Malt, KK Security, Kibo Palace, RwandAir, Kilimanjaro Water, CMC Automobiles, FNB, TPC Limited and Keys Hotel.
