Serengeti Boys, Ngorongoro learn their opponents for AFCON fnals

What you need to know:

  • This will be Serengeti Boys' third AFCON U-17 appearance, following their participation in 2017 in Gabon and 2019 in Tanzania.

Dar es Salaam. Tanzania’s national football youth teams, the U-17 (Serengeti Boys) and the U-20 (Ngorongoro Heroes), have both been placed in Group A alongside the host nations in their respective AFCON youth tournaments.

The Serengeti Boys will face hosts Morocco, along with Uganda and Zambia, while Ngorongoro Heroes will meet hosts Ivory Coast in Group A, alongside DR Congo, Ghana, and one team from the Central African Football Zone (UNIFFAC 2).

According to the draw conducted today, February 13, 2025, Group B of the U-17 tournament comprises Burkina Faso, South Africa, Egypt, and one team from the Central African Football Zone (UNIFFAC 1).

Group C includes Senegal, The Gambia, Somalia, and Tunisia, while Group D features Mali, Angola, Ivory Coast, and another team from the Central African Football Zone (UNIFFAC 2).

This will be Serengeti Boys' third AFCON U-17 appearance, following their participation in 2017 in Gabon and 2019 in Tanzania.

The top 10 teams from the tournament will qualify for the U-17 FIFA World Cup, set to take place in November this year in Qatar.

For the U-20 tournament, which will feature 13 teams, the competition will take place from April 26 to May 18, 2025, in Ivory Coast.

Group B consists of Nigeria, Egypt, South Africa, and Morocco, while Group C features Senegal, Zambia, Kenya, and Sierra Leone.

This will be Ngorongoro Heroes' second appearance in the competition, having previously participated in 2021 in Mauritania.

The top four teams (semi-finalists) will earn automatic qualification for the U-20 FIFA World Cup, set to take place in Chile from September 27 to October 19, 2025.
