Dar es Salaam. Tanzania's football giants, Simba SC, face a tough test today against Namungo FC in the ongoing Mainland Tanzania Premier League at Majaliwa Stadium in Lindi Region.
Apart from this match, two other fixtures are scheduled for today at 4pm whereby Coastal Union will take on Azam FC at Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium in Arusha, while Mashujaa will face Pamba Jiji FC at Lake Tanganyika Stadium in Kigoma.
The highly anticipated clash between Namungo FC and Simba SC is set to kick off at 6:15pm.
All three matches are expected to be fiercely contested, as each team is eager to secure maximum points to improve their position in the league standings.
Simba, currently second on the league table with 47 points from 18 matches, are looking to close the gap on defending champions Young Africans (Yanga), who lead the standings with 52 points from 20 matches.
On the other hand, Namungo FC, currently placed 10th, are aiming for victory to move up the table. A win would see them reach 24 points and potentially climb to sixth place, depending on the results of other matches played yesterday.
Simba head coach Fadlu Davids expressed confidence in his squad, stating that his players are in top form and ready for the challenge.
“We know the match will be tough, but we have taken the necessary precautions. Our goal is to secure all three points,” said Fadlu.
He said that most of his players are in good shape and committed to delivering a strong performance.
Namungo FC head coach Juma Mgunda also accredited the difficulty of the match but insisted that his players are highly motivated.
“We respect Simba, but we will do everything possible to secure a win and improve our position in the league standings,” said Mgunda.
He added: “This is a crucial match for us. Playing at home gives us an advantage, and we are confident our fans will provide strong support. We will not allow Simba to dominate us.”
